Sidewalks of Historic Downtown
The Bears are returning to Main Street after a two year hibernation. Bearfootin' in Downtown Hendersonville has been a highly popular public art display. The bears are sponsored by area businesses and are colorfully decorated in different themes by area artists. The bears reside on the sidewalks of Downtown, along with trees, planters of flowers, and benches in a beautiful park-like setting. This successful art exhibit has entertained people of all ages.
Historic Downtown Hendersonville was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in March of 1988. Thriving businesses such as specialty shops, antique stores and restaurants offer something for very interest and taste.
A public auction of the bears will be held in October 23, 2010. Proceeds from the auctions goes to charities. The exhibit started in 2003 and has raised a considerable amount of money for charities.
For a free guide to view the bears, stop by the Visitors Information Center, located at 201 South Main Street for your free guide to all the Bears downtown. The brochures will be available in May. Bearfootin’ is sponsored by Downtown Hendersonville, Inc. For more information call 828-697-2022. www.downtownhendersonville.org |
